Why spay or neuter?
Our low-cost spay and neuter clinic makes responsible pet ownership accessible to every family in Skagit County. Fewer unwanted litters means fewer animals in shelters and more resources to care for the ones who need us most.
- Helps to reduce pet overpopulation. Millions of healthy dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year simply because there aren't enough homes. Spaying and neutering is the single most effective way to stop the cycle.
- For longer, healthier lives. Spayed females have a significantly lower risk of mammary tumors and eliminate the risk of uterine infections and cancers. Neutered males avoid testicular cancer and have reduced rates of prostate problems.
- To produce better behavior. Neutered males are less likely to roam, mark territory, or act aggressively toward other animals. Spayed females won't go into heat, which means no yowling, pacing, or unwanted male visitors at your door.
- Saves you money in the long run. The one-time cost of the procedure is far less than caring for a litter of puppies or kittens or paying vet bills for fight wounds.
- Results in fewer accidents. Intact pets are far more likely to escape in search of a mate, which puts them at risk of getting lost, hit by a car, or injured in fights.
- Helps your community. Fewer stray and feral animals means less strain on shelters, lower taxpayer costs for animal control, and safer neighborhoods for both pets and wildlife.
